Inocybe geophylla var. lilacina Gillet. Lilac Fibrecap. Cap as I. geophylla except for the striking lilac colour, often with ochraceous flush at umbo. Stem lilac with ochraceous base. Flesh violaceous. Taste acrid, smell strongly earthy or mealy. Gills clay-coloured. Cystidia as in var. geophylla. Spore print snuff-brown. Spores smooth, slightly almond-shaped, 7–10 x 5.5–6µ. Habitat in woods of all kinds. Season summer to autumn. Frequent. Poisonous. Distribution, America and Europe.
Note at one time the more strongly violet forms were described as a separate variety. Inocybe geophylla var. violacea (Patouill.) Heim. The very strongly colored specimens pictured do seem worthy of being a separate variety.
